Cotopaxi, The Ice Giant




Ecuador has many tourist sites and places to visit, among them the Cotopaxi National Park which is a great attraction to visit and learn new ways to have fun with your family or friends.

Cotopaxi National Park, was declared on August 11, 1975, it includes paramo ecosystems, the height ranges from 3400-5897 meters.
The majestic snow peak Cotopaxi alone in this exemplary zone, creates the Cutuchi rivers and river Daule, these rivers are the source of drinking water and irrigation to several towns of the eastern region and Quito.



This beautiful park is located or belongs to the provinces of Cotopaxi, Pichincha and Napo.

The area is splendid for those who like adventure, although some skills and high mountain previous experience climbing others is necessary in order to enjoy of this beautiful location.

With 5897 meters high and being one of the most active nowadays, the walking and climbing requires specialized gaiters, crampons, axes, helmets and ropes team. The volcano´s activity increased since 2003 but not until August 2015, secquence of eruptions were reported some 138 years after its last major eruption.
Due to the expulsion of volcanic material it was placed under constant surveillance by the Geophysical Institute, who monitor the activity volcanic throughout the Ecuadorian territory, including the Andes and the Galapagos Islands, placing a "yellow warning" in the country, declared but not led to increased eruptive episode.
